Panelists: Dr. Paul Bhatti, Dr. Michael Yang, Dr. Ali Sigal
Dr. Paul Bhatti has had extensive education and training in becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. His education began by obtaining a Bachelors degree in Human Physiology from the University of Toronto. From there, he continued his education and received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Northwestern University. This was followed by obtaining a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and a completion of an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 2002 from Sinai Hospital/St. Joseph-Mercy Hospital of Michigan. As part of his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, Dr. Bhatti has had extensive general anesthesia and IV sedation training. Dr. Bhatti is both a fellow of Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Bhatti has also held teaching positions at the University of Detroit-Mercy as well as the University of Michigan. Currently Dr. Bhatti is affiliated with McMaster University and performs his more complex surgeries at McMaster University Medical Center as well as Hamilton General Hospital. He also performs surgical procedures at St. Joseph’s Health Centre – Hamilton. Dr. Bhatti actively takes trauma calls at Hamilton Health Sciences which services facial trauma calls for the Hamilton and surrounding areas. Dr. Bhatti has also previously taught at the University of Toronto in the Department of Oral Surgery and routinely lectures in various topics in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Bhatti is also an active surgeon with Hamilton Health Sciences/McMaster University Cleft-Lip and Palate Team.
Dr. Michael Yang is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Board Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics. Dr. Yang’s interest in Dentistry began while completing his Honours Bachelors of Science in Microbiology at the University of Toronto. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the New York University, College of Dentistry. Subsequently, Dr. Yang completed his specialty certification in Prosthodontics and Master of Science degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry. His Master’s Thesis involved the verification of dental implant position for Fixed Prostheses in the edentulous patient.
Dr. Yang has extensive training in full mouth rehabilitation, pre-prosthetic surgical techniques, dental implants, aesthetics, digital smile design and computer guided surgery. His focus is on restorations in the aesthetic zone and complex rehabilitations.
Dr. Michael Yang is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Ontario Dental Association and the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada. Dr. Yang is also an active member of the Halton-Peel Dental association. He maintains private practice at M Prosthodontics in Mississauga, Ontario where he is the owner/co-founder, Burlington Prosthodontics in Burlington, Ontario and in Toronto. Dr. Yang is an Instructor of Prosthodontics at the University of Toronto, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and lectures in Canada and internationally.
Dr. Alison Sigal graduated from McMaster University with an Honours degree in Kinesiology before attending the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science Degree with Specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry. Between programs, she completed a hospital-based residency at Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto). She is currently practicing in Milton, ON at Little Bird Pediatric Dentistry, which she opened in 2017 to provide comprehensive oral care to all children from birth onwards and persons with special needs of all ages.In 2008, she founded the Federal Non-Profit Organization “Oral Health Total Health”, dedicated to advocating, educating, and improving access to oral health care for persons with special needs. She is also the primary dental consultant to Special Olympics Ontario – “Healthy Smiles” initiative. She has received additional training in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, frenum assessment/care and Buteyko Breathing. She has presented and been invited as the keynote speaker for future meetings on both airway centric pediatric health care and dental care for persons with special needs of all ages.
